We left Bergen early Saturday morning to catch the sun in Fresvikjordalen. The valley had already warmed up for our arrival. After a nice lunch in the sun, we started hiking towards Handadalseggi. Approximately at Fresvikvarden, we were lucky to find the first snow of the season, pure white and so fresh. The snow, however, made hiking conditions severe as there was no real layers in the snowpack. After some "thumble and fumble" in snow, we finally made it almost to the top of Handadalseggi. We turned around before we reached the camp to allow enough time to establish camp in the daylight. We had a delicious dinner (Chili Con Carne à la Emilie) and a dessert. With full stomachs, we were ready to jump in the sleeping bags. Priceless!
The following day we started early to get to Fresvikbreen, around a 2,5-hours hike from Leitet for a big group. At Fresvikvarden we continued to Langafonnsvatnet, and then headed W-NW towards the glacier. As expected, the glacier was snow covered after the last snowfall, but we managed to find and cross some crevasses ascending the glacier face. We made it all the way to top, and enjoyed a 360-degrees view of Sunnfjord, Sogn, Voss and the rest of Hordaland. Extrordinary weather facilitated a great experience. Hiking back to Leitet, we were all proud to have achieved our goal and motivated for future trips. Some of us gave a last pray to Fresvikvarden before heading back home.
